home, sweet home

After 12 weeks of scurrying to the Metro, wearing business casual dresses, walking along cobbled streets, eating exotic foods, I am back home for a while. I packed up my humble room in the castle and in a meager 40 minutes, my family came to whisk me away from the city.

I stayed awake last night, memorizing the outline of townhouses against city skyline. I watched the street lights flicker from green to yellow to red. I smiled at every wailing siren. I am going to miss DC like someone misses a lover. I have come to know every curve, every dark place, every wink.

Without going into too much detail, I have essentially secured the nonprofit social media manager position - currently, however, there is no funding to hire me on as an employee as of yet. The founder expects that within the next 45 days, the funding will come through, and if that pans out, I will be a Social Media Manager for Standing for Safety, bi-partisan nonprofit.

I would be working remotely for the next year or so, which means I can live at home and savesavesave. Then, when the time is right and if this position goes as planned, I will purchase a townhouse or condo in DC. I can taste the city - but it still feels like a far away place. I woke up in DC this morning, but, like an old lover, it has already become blurry.

Prayers and fingers crossed for a permanent position with SFS. Until then, I will be re-acquainting myself with Gatsby and my beloved green beetle. Nothing like a little fresh mountain air to set my sights right :)
